1969 ALPINE A110 - GROUP 4 SPECIFICATION

This Alpine A110 is an exciting classic sports car, which has been upgraded to Group 4 specification, and which has proven to be a competitive car in historic rallying. Mounted behind the driver is a 120bhp 1.3-litre Alpine inline-four, with modified cams and a Gordini cylinder head, fed by twin Weber 40 carburettors, and coupled to a close-ratio manual transmission.

Originally a Valladolid-built road car, this A110 is understood to have been first registered in 1969, with its conversion to racing specifications taking place more than 20 years ago. The current owner in Italy acquired the car around one year ago. It is known to have participated in several Classic Targa Florio rallies, and is reported to have won its class in the 1999/2000 Sicilian Historic Car Championship.

Today, the car presents in fair condition, with no signs of damage to its fibreglass bodywork. The white paint finish was applied many years ago, and is now in poor to fair order around the car, with fading, cracks and flaking in various places. Of course, it could simply be left as-is by the next owner, but would certainly benefit from a full respray. The car features additional Carello spotlights at the front, a smart red racing stripe running the length of the body, and a sports exhaust system. It rides on 13-inch cast alloy wheels as seen on the 1600S.

Inside, the black seat upholstery presents well overall, and has evidently been re-trimmed in the past. The door seals are aged and require replacement, and the door card panels are also worn. The gear shifter and handbrake lever have been changed to more contemporary items, and overall the cabin is in fair condition for its age and motorsport conversion history. Ahead of the driver is a smart Lecarra steering wheel by Moto-Lita. Its wood veneer dashboard panel appears original, though is now cracked in places.

Its last full service was in 2018, when the engine oil and filter were replaced, and the carburettors were also tuned. As part of the Group 4 upgrades, there is also a partial roll cage, as well as upgraded front and rear radiators, and a new fuel cell.

Accompanying the car is various Italian paperwork, invoices for the roll bar and fuel tank, and a technical passport.

This Alpine A110 to Group 4 specification is a charming historic rally car, which has been driven and enjoyed as intended, and has even notched up race wins along the way. While it would now benefit from some cosmetic refurbishment, this car is ready to use as-is if desired, and should prove to be a great value classic sports car.
