1969 ALFA ROMEO GT 1300 JUNIOR 'STEPNOSE'

This 1969 Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior ‘Stepnose’ is presented in superb condition following a sympathetic restoration seven years ago. Under the bonnet sits the 1.3-litre Alfa twin-cam engine, driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 35,133 miles, which is believed to be a true 135,133 miles.

An original right-hand-drive UK-market ‘Stepnose’ model, this Alfa was delivered new to E.L. Bouts Motors Ltd in Wolverhampton. It was the subject of a sympathetic restoration across 2013/14, following a 28-year period of dry storage. The vehicle received an engine and transmission rebuild, alongside replacement Alfaholics sills, front wings and a headlight surround, before being resprayed in its striking original colour of Rosso Amaranto. First registered in August 1969, the car has been with its current keeper for around two years.

The elegant bodywork of this Alfa is in excellent shape. As it has been used and enjoyed since the respray, its Rosso Amaranto paint does present with some slight fading on the boot lid and roof, alongside some very minor scratches on the edges of both doors. The vendor reports there are some areas where the paint has chipped, such as the boot and door shuts, though these minor blemishes are out of sight. The vehicle rides on a set of pristine 14-inch wheels with the correct Alfa Romeo hub caps.

Inside, the seats are trimmed with tan vinyl, which may well be original, and is described as being in good condition. The vendor notes there are some minor tears and some frayed stitching, though the upholstery boasts a handsome patina throughout. The vinyl door cards are in good shape, along with the wood veneer across the dashboard. No electrical faults have been detected, and though the stereo is original, the vendor notes it has been disconnected to prevent the battery from draining while the car is stationary.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in February 2021 at 135,045 miles, where the vendor reports a specialist freelance mechanic changed the engine oil and filter following the car’s winter storage. Prior to this, similar routine maintenance was undertaken in June 2020 at 134,720 miles.

The track rod ends and lower ball joints were replaced in January 2020, while from December 2020 to February 2021, the car underwent a complete ignition overhaul. This included the fitment of a new condenser, coil, plugs, leads, carburettor mounts, battery cables, starter motor, fuel pump and associated gaskets; as well as a full rebuild and tune of both Weber DCOE 40 carburettors. The aforementioned restoration work was carried out in 2013/14 by Alfa Romeo specialists using many parts from Alfaholics, Classic Alfa and other original parts. The wheels are wrapped with Firestone Multihawk tyres, which were fitted in 2017 and are believed to have covered less than 2,000 miles.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original service book, which is stamped up to 54,665 miles, as well as the original English language owner’s manual, stereo instruction booklet and a raft of Department of Transport road test certificates, dating from 1974-1984.

This Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior is a beloved Italian classic, presented with an attractive Rosso Amaranto finish and in good order throughout. Following a sympathetic restoration by Alfa Romeo specialists, this UK-market ‘Stepnose’ is now a well-sorted example, which is ready to delight on the open road.
