1969 ALFA ROMEO GT 1300 JUNIOR - LHD

This Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior is a stunning example of a charming Italian classic, presented in outstanding condition following a restoration around four years ago. Under the bonnet is the tuneful 1.3-litre Alfa twin-cam engine, fed by side-draft Weber carburettors, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 7,934km, which is understood to be the mileage since the restoration.

An original left-hand drive ‘stepnose’ example, this car was acquired from continental Europe last year, and was first registered in the UK in April 2019 by the current owner. Following a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment and rebuild, this GT 1300 Junior has also been fettled with sought-after Alfaholics upgrades to create a wonderful driver’s car.

Today, its bodywork presents in superb condition, with impressive shut lines and panel gaps all around the car. It is finished in the period-perfect hue of Giallo Ocra, which has a smooth and even appearance. Photos of the underbody provide a glimpse of the top-notch quality of the refurbishment, with frame and floors in remarkably good order.

The door jambs, bonnet and boot shuts are in great shape, with no evidence of corrosion, and the window and door seals are sound. While the chrome bumpers have evidently been refinished to a mirror shine, the original ‘scudetto’ grille centrepiece has been left in place to preserve the charming patina. The car rides on 15-inch replica GTA alloys, which are pristine and have stainless steel wheel nuts.

Stepping inside, the cabin retains a beautifully period-correct appearance, re-trimmed in glorious dark tan leather upholstery that has an aged look. The seats are door cards are undamaged and present in superb order, while there are also new three-point seat belts fitted for the front occupants. Its dashboard, which can be a weak spot on the GT Junior, is in excellent condition, with no tears, marks, or shrinking of the covering.

This car is reported to have a strong engine, with a gearbox and rear axle in equally good order. Mechanically, it benefits from some selected upgrades chosen and installed by the Alfa Romeo gurus, Alfaholics, including the handling kit that features bespoke coil springs and four new Koni yellow dampers. There are also GTA-type top suspension arms, an Alfaholics quick steering arm, and an uprated 29mm front anti-roll bar with S4 drop links and fittings.

Brake calipers have been upgraded, and the Alfaholics stainless steel exhaust system has been installed. The car also received an aluminium radiator, a programmable 123 distributor, and a 4.4mm lightweight heated GT windscreen. In total, the Alfaholics improvements carried out in March 2020 came to a total cost of £18,517.

This Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior is not only a fine example of the popular classic tourer, but it benefits from some choice Alfaholics upgrades to enhance both the driving experience and the usability. Given the fastidious recent restoration, this car is now ready for many more miles on the road, and in this particular specification is sure to delight and surprise its next owner in equal measure.
