1968 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK - GT500 ELEANOR TRIBUTE

This 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback is a simply stunning homage to one of the most famous movie cars ever seen on the big screen. Benefitting from a comprehensive package of aesthetic and mechanical upgrades, this example is powered by 351W V8 from Engine Factory in the US, producing around 400bhp, coupled to a four-speed Ford Toploader manual transmission. The odometer indicates 44,116 miles, though this is not warranted.

Based upon a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback, this tribute car was completely rebuilt from the stock specification by the previous owner, transforming it into the head-turning homage to the GT500 ‘Eleanor’ seen here. Imported and re-registered in the UK in 2008, it was purchased by the vendor nearly 10 years ago, and has travelled less than 1,000 miles since the rebuild was completed.

Underneath the enhanced bodywork, the underpinnings of the car have also been significantly upgraded. The standard Ford V8 has been given Edelbrock performance heads, the brakes have been upgraded with a set of Wilwood 4-piston callipers and the car sits on Hiedts coil-over suspension. The striking Pepper Grey finish presents in fantastic condition, commensurate of a show car that has been barely driven in the last 13 years. While the paintwork is almost factory fresh in its appearance, there is a small mark in the light recess on the nearside, along with a minor mark above the offside exhaust tip. Other than the aforementioned blemishes, the paintwork is in near-pristine condition, and looks absolutely stunning in the sunlight, commanding incredible road presence thanks to its muscular features and side-exit exhausts.

Inside, the cabin is in outstanding condition thanks to the limited use of the vehicle since the restoration was completed. The leather seats are in superb order, showing no signs of wear, with the bolsters still being in great shape. The carpets, headliner, dashboard and door cards are also in pristine condition.

The last service was carried out during April 2018 at 44,110 miles by Bodywerkes. Due to the low usage of the vehicle, only the standard oil and filter change was required. Prior to this, services were carried out in March 2013 and March 2010, at 43,918 and 43,311 miles respectively. There are no known faults with the vehicle, and it drives as expected from a comprehensively restored and upgraded vehicle.

The most recent MOT test took place on 5 April 2018, and resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The tyres are all in good condition, but are now approaching 12 years old, so a replacement may be advisable should you wish to explore the full potential of this high-performance muscle car.
