CONDITION

• There is no noted damage to the vehicle.
• The Seafoam Green paintwork is believed to be entirely original, and presents well for its age, showing only the usual stone chips and very small patches of flaked paint commensurate with a 53-year-old vehicle.
• The standard alloy wheels have been replaced by a set of genuine Shelby items from the same era, which are in very good condition.
• Inside, the black vinyl interior is also believed to be original, with only a small repair to the cover on the driver’s seat base.
• The cabin is in generally great shape, and even retains its original push-button radio. There is some light ‘patina’ noted on the inner door trims, door cards and high-traffic areas such as the shifter, though this is all commensurate with the car’s age and mileage.
• There are no known faults with the vehicle, and no warning lights on the dashboard.
• On account of its age, this Mustang is exempt from mandatory MOT testing.

SERVICE HISTORY

• Fresh from a recent major service at 56,756 miles, the work carried out included a full oil and filter change, new fuel filter and air filter, fresh spark plugs, new brakes all round, a new set of hydraulic hoses all round, and new fuel lines.
• It also received fresh coolant, a radiator re-core, transmission service, new engine oil pan and oil pan gasket, fresh power steering hoses and fluid and new shock absorbers. All work was carried out with genuine OEM FoMoCo service parts.

SUMMARY

Mechanically fettled but cosmetically original, this Ford Mustang 289 Hardtop is a fine example of a ‘survivor’ car, having been cared for in the US by one lady owner until it was exported. Now in excellent mechanical health and said to be driving superbly, this Mustang would make a fine weekend car, and is sure to turn heads at car shows and informal meets.
