1968 FIAT DINO COUPE 2000

An original, low mileage example of a Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed Italian classic, this 1968 Fiat Dino Coupé 2000 presents very well following much recent expenditure and is finished in the rare special option colour of Mexico City Blue with a Black interior.

Being an earlier variant of the Dino Coupé, this example is powered by an all-alloy 2.0-litre V6 engine (as found in the Ferrari Dino 206 GT) paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Today, the odometer shows just 23,382 km (14,528 miles). While the mileage is unwarranted, it may well be accurate, given the remarkably original and impressive condition.

Having been imported to the UK by the current owner in 2018, the car received the age-related number plate of FMA 784F and has since been enjoyed sparingly and kept well-maintained as part of a four-car collection.

The Mexico City Blue paintwork allows the sharp lines of the Dino to be fully appreciated and, having been repainted in the car’s factory special order colour around six years ago, still presents well today. The seller notes only small rust bubbles; one to the edge of the bonnet, one on the rear quarter, and some showing at the bottom of the driver’s side wheel arch. Panel gaps are crisp and tight – an element which often lets lesser examples down – and overall the bodywork is very well presented.

The stainless steel trims are also in great condition, with the seller noting only some very minor dents to the front bumper. The iconic and original Cromodora wheels present superbly, having been refurbished by the previous owner, and they are shod in Michelin MXV-P tyres – a modern tyre with classic styling and proportions which gives the car an excellent stance.

The interior is described as being in superb original condition, testament to the car’s low mileage, and does not bear any rips or tears. The seller notes the cabin to be remarkably original, with factory-fitted upholstery, carpets, gauges, headlining and steering wheel. The dashboard is in excellent condition with no cracks. The basket-weave vinyl seats appear in excellent unworn condition, and the seller also notes the glass is in excellent, clear condition having been recently detailed. In the boot area, the correct coarse-weave carpet is present, along with full tool and jack kits in bags, and the original spare alloy wheel with tie-down.

Mechanically, the car is described as being in on-the-button condition, following extensive work by the previous owner that included an engine and gearbox overhaul (including engine heads), new suspension with correct Koni shock absorbers and all new bushes, a steering box rebuild, brake overhaul, new hoses and belts, new stainless steel exhaust, new stainless steel fuel tank and new battery. Furthermore, new sills were also fitted. Since its arrival in the UK, the car has also been serviced at Ferrari specialist Migliore Cars, as well as having the paintwork detailed.

Arguably one of the lowest mileage examples on the market, presented in superb condition following much expenditure and diligent care, this is a fine example of a stylish Italian classic with excellent pedigree. Ready to be enjoyed as-is, this Fiat Dino Coupé 2000 is a wonderful blend of Giugiaro styling with a charismatic Ferrari-designed V6 engine.
