1968 AUSTIN MINI MOKE

KEY FACTS

• An iconic classic recreational vehicle, presented in highly original, unrestored condition and good mechanical order.
• Under the bonnet is the 848cc A-series inline-four, which produces up to 45bhp and drives the front wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
• A Mk2 Moke, as evidenced by its dual windscreen wipers among other things, this example is an original UK-delivered car, first registered in October 1968.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• This Moke is finished in what is believed to be its factory-applied Spruce Green paintwork, and retains its original seats, roof and side panels.
• It rides on a retrofitted set of 10-inch ‘reverse-rim’ Mini Cooper steel wheels, which are finished with cream paintwork and have recently been shod with new yet period-appropriate Dunlop SP44 Weathermaster tyres.
• The car will be supplied with invoices for its maintenance from 2006 onwards, as well as a BMIHT certificate confirming its identity and matching engine and chassis numbers.

CONDITION

• There is no known bodywork damage, and while there is a bend in the front bumper bar, this is a minor flaw.
• The Spruce Green paintwork is thought to be entirely original, and while there are various marks, blemishes and bubbles of surface corrosion around the car, it only serves to illustrate its 53-year history.
• The green vinyl roof and side panels are also believed to be the correct, factory-supplied items and are free of any rips or tears, though the flexible plastic rear window has yellowed with age, as is to be expected.
• Inside, the green vinyl-trimmed seats are in generally good order; however there is a 1cm split on the base of the driver’s seat, which also needs to have its fitting strap sewn back in place.
• While they are somewhat limited given the vehicle’s utilitarian design, the interior trim items and switchgear present well, with a charming light ‘patina’ in line with their age.
• There are no known electrical or mechanical faults.
• While it is exempt on the grounds that it is more than 40 years old, the car’s last MOT test was conducted on 24 June 2021 at 70,728 miles, which resulted in a clean pass after the brakes, horn, offside rear position lamp, windscreen washer, and windscreen wiper were tended to.
• This Moke’s most recent routine maintenance was a full brake overhaul, which was carried out in June 2021 at 70,728 miles by MLT Autos.

SUMMARY

This 1968 Austin Mini Moke is a wonderful example of the cult favourite, which has charm in spades and a superb reputation for offering reliable, practical motoring. Believed to be fully original down to its paintwork and vinyl hood, this well-preserved example will make a charming addition to an assembly of British classics.
