1967 VANDEN PLAS PRINCESS 1100

KEY FACTS

• A smart luxury version of the Austin and Morris 1100, equipped with rare factory options and in very good order for its age.
• Under the bonnet is the 1.1-litre A-series inline-four, fed by a single carburettor, coupled to four-speed automatic transmission.
• It is understood to be one of only 606 Mark II Vanden Plas cars built, of which only 163 had the automatic transmission.
• The car was also specified with the retractable sunroof.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• It is finished in a smart blue colour with a gold coachline, while the interior is trimmed in light brown leather, accented by burr wood panels.
• Its plush specification includes wood caps on the doors, and fold-down wood picnic tables behind the front seats.
• A more modern radio cassette head unit and speakers have been installed, but otherwise it is believed to retain the original specification.
• Accompanying the car is the owner’s manual and some service history paperwork.

CONDITION

• There is no known bodywork damage.
• Its resprayed blue paintwork is in generally excellent condition.
• The interior is believed to be wholly original, and the light brown leather now displays some more noticeable wear to the front seats, but the upholstery is still in very good order for its age.
• No electrical faults have been detected.

SERVICE HISTORY

• It was given a routine service in April 2021 at 42,000 km, and has been serviced annually while in the vendor’s care over the last few years.
• In January 2019, the engine oil and filter were renewed, the handbrake was attended to, the brakes were cleaned and checked, and the fuel tank was flushed.
• The drive belt was last replaced in 2018.

SUMMARY

This Vanden Plas Princess 1110 is a smart example of a luxurious British classic. The Mark II version was in production for less than 12 months, and is accordingly now a rare find, especially in such good condition. It would be a great addition to any collection of lesser-seen BMC vehicles, and is offered in excellent mechanical condition, ready to drive and enjoy.
