1967 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK RESTOMOD- GT500 ELEANOR TRIBUTE

This 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback is a superb ‘restomod’ tribute to the iconic Shelby GT500 ‘Eleanor’ featured in Gone in 60 Seconds, which has undergone a complete mechanical overhaul, including the fitment of a custom tubular chassis and numerous carbon-fibre features. Under the bonnet sits a 450bhp 5.0-litre V8 from a 2017 Mustang GT, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. Rather than being aiming for a faithful 1960s feel, the car has been designed as a much more focused vehicle, with contemporary performance and handling in a classic style body. The odometer currently indicates 6,729 km.

The chassis number indicates that this is a genuine 1967 Mustang Fastback, which originally left the factory fitted with an optional ‘S code’ GT 390ci V8. While a substantial rebuild was carried out in 2015 at Schwartz Performance in Illinois, it is understood that the tribute conversion and upgrade was completed in 2019. Along with the modern engine and custom tubular chassis, this car was also fitted with an Inox exhaust, Fox Factory RideTech coil-over suspension, an aluminium driveshaft, rack-and-pinion power steering and an uprated Willwood braking system. The driveline also features a nine-inch Moser rear end and custom American Racing wheels, while the cabin is equipped with Recaro seats, air-conditioning and various carbon-fibre trim pieces.

The bodywork of this Mustang is all in very good shape, and the condition of the grey paintwork has been described as excellent. It features two black racing stripes and presents with no significant scuffs, though a few minor stone chips can be seen on the front end. Staying faithful to the film car’s aesthetic, this tribute features two bumper-mounted spot lamps, a large chrome fuel filler cap, and pointed ‘bullet’ wing mirrors.

Inside, the two-tone Recaro seats feature the Shelby logo embossed in the headrests, and present with just a few light marks on the grey centre panels. The vendor reports the interior is hand-built, with carbon panels, a carbon gear knob, dial faces and other interior elements, well as various pieces of chrome trim, all of which presents very well. The leather-clad centre console, two-tone gear lever casing and three-spoke steering wheel are in excellent condition, though one or two light marks can be seen on the glovebox opening. A Pioneer stereo system has been installed, and all of the electrics are believed to work as they should.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in December 2019 at around 3,000 km, where technicians at Garage des Moneghetti in Monaco changed the engine oil and filter, before carrying out a general check-over following the custom build. The Falken tyres are around two years old and are in good condition.

Accompanying the vehicle is a detailed record of the restoration and upgrade programme, along with a raft of maintenance invoices and registration documents.

This Ford Mustang Fastback is a compelling tribute to the ‘Eleanor’ GT500 as seen in Gone in 60 Seconds, with a custom chassis, a modern 5.0-litre V8 and an array of bespoke touches – which the vendor states makes it drive like a modern vehicle rather than a 1960s homage. A superb display item or a truly attention-grabbing weekend toy, this GT500 homage has been driven sparingly since the build was finished, and is now ready for many more miles with its next owner.
