1967 FORD MUSTANG 289 HARDTOP - LHD

KEY FACTS

  • A top-quality example of the original Pony Car, benefiting from an extensive restoration.
  • This notchback model is equipped with the 289 cubic inch (4.7-litre) V8 engine, upgraded with a four-barrel Edelbrock performance carburettor, coupled with an automatic transmission.
  • Delivered to its first owner in October 1967 in Indianapolis, Indiana, this Mustang shows 59,012 miles on the odometer. It was with the previous owner for 18 years, though was officially re-registered in the UK in 2011.
  • With extensive history, including the original 1967 sales invoice, this car offers a nostalgic driving experience as well as an evocative soundtrack.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • While its original 289 V8 left the factory with a two-barrel carburettor, it has been upgraded to an Edelbrock four-barrel item with a performance inlet manifold. This is complemented by uprated cam lifters and rockers, and fitment of an electronic ignition system to improve the driveability.
  • Supplied with its original Ford operating and maintenance manual, as well as original sales receipt and owner warranty cards, this Mustang also has a folder full of documentation and receipts for the restoration work.

CONDITION

  • Finished in Frost Turquoise, this Mustang is still fresh from a bare-metal respray and boasts a body shell that is reportedly totally free of rust. Straight and smooth panel work is detailed with chromed bumpers, sill panels, window surrounds, and other body trims, which are all in great shape.
  • A small chip has been noted on the driver’s door, but otherwise this classic coupe looks genuinely stunning in the metal.
  • The car rides on five-spoke black and polished steel 14-inch rims, which are in pristine condition.
  • While the bodywork and paint has been restored, the black upholstery in the cabin is thought to be original, and it displays a handsome patina throughout. It presents very well, with the seat bolsters and dashboard in good condition and punctuated with metal door furniture, switchgear and instrument bezels. The rear seats, carpets and boot continue the theme of a well-restored vehicle with great attention to detail.
  • There are no known faults with the controls or electrics.
  • The last MOT test reportedly took place in Northern Ireland in October 2018, when it passed with no advisories.
  • The BFGoodrich Radial tyres are reported to be in excellent condition with around 95% of their tread remaining.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Last serviced in June 2020 at 58,361 miles, this consisted of engine and transmission oil and filter changes. The car was serviced annually since the restoration, and in the previous ownership was stored in a car ‘bubble’ inside a heated insulated garage when not in use, and has not seen rain or road salt since the work was carried out.
  • The restoration is described as a comprehensive refurbishment, with the previous owner stating that it received a “full mechanical overhaul on every single moving part”. All of the bolts, nuts, washers, and clips are new; as are the rubbers and bushes around the body and suspension. The steering and braking systems were also renewed in their entirety.
