1967 AUSTIN MINI COOPER S 1275

This genuine Austin Mini Cooper S 1275 is a superb example of the 1960s British classic, which presents in excellent condition and benefits from recent cosmetic and mechanical restoration. Under the bonnet is the numbers-matching 1275cc A-series inline-four engine, which was fully rebuilt in 2006 by Mini specialist Jim Brindle at R.A.C.E Engineering. This drives the front wheels via the four-speed manual transmission.

The odometer displays just 39,760 miles, which is supported by the car’s MOT history. This Mk1 Mini Cooper S was built in January 1967 and first registered shortly afterwards on 23 February when it was sold by dealers Mann Egerton & Co, Norwich.

The logbook lists seven prior keepers, including famed bakers the Warburton family of Lancashire. Following the family’s ownership, the car remained in the county and was purchased by a couple as a retirement present, and was enjoyed for some 18 years before being sold due to lack of use. The current owner then purchased the car one year ago, and is now offering it for sale, having completed some light refurbishment, including a full respray.

Today, the diminutive car’s bodywork and its repainted Tartan Red finish present in excellent condition, with no notable marks, corrosion or blemishes. The exterior brightwork is also in great condition, and the bumpers, front grille and other chrome trim items have all been polished to a high shine.

The light lenses are also in good order, and a reproduction ‘John Cooper Garages Ltd’ dealer sticker on the rear window helps to make this genuine Cooper S appear as though it has been transported directly from the 1960s to the present day. It rides on a set of new but period-appropriate 10-inch ‘rose petal’ alloy wheels with matte black spokes and silver rims, which present very well indeed.

The cabin has been fully reupholstered using Newton Commercial’s Tartan Red and Gold Brocade Grey trim, and presents in outstanding condition. The seller also notes that new reclining front seats have been fitted, and that the carpets have also been replaced with new red Veltone material in the correct style. All of the interior switchgear is reported to work without fault, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Described by the vendor as running perfectly, this classic Mini is in excellent mechanical order. The car’s last routine maintenance was an oil service which was carried out in December 2020 at an indicated 39,000 miles by Love Green Garage.

Prior to this, its genuine Cooper S engine was fully rebuilt in 2006 by Mini specialist Jim Brindle at R.A.C.E Engineering of Lancashire, and the seller understands that the car has covered less than 2,000 miles since.

Exempt due to its age, this British classic’s last MOT test was conducted on 15 November 2017 at 39,483 miles, resulting in a first-time pass. The vendor states that a general inspection was carried out on 10 December 2020, and no warnings or recommendations were issued. All four alloy wheels are fitted with brand new vintage-style Dunlop SP Sport Tyres, which are in very good order.

This charming British classic will be accompanied by all of its original paperwork including the driver’s handbook, accompanying literature and a heritage certificate confirming that it is indeed a genuine original Cooper S. The seller will also supply the car’s old V5 forms and MOT test certificates, which substantiate its mileage.

A British icon on the road, the circuit and the rally stage, the Mk1 Austin Mini Cooper S rightly deserves its place in the hearts of enthusiasts the world over. Presenting in excellent condition and benefiting from recent cosmetic and mechanical restoration, this numbers matching, low-mileage Cooper S will make a marvellous addition to any Mini aficionado’s collection, and is sure to bring a smile to their face whenever they get behind the wheel.
