1966 PONTIAC PARISIENNE

This 1966 Pontiac Parisienne is a rare right-hand drive example of the classic full-size sedan, which benefits from a prior refurbishment and is presented in impressive overall condition. Under the bonnet is a 283 cubic inch (4.6-litre) V8, which is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The odometer indicates 46,182 miles.

Built in December 1966 in Canada, this third-generation Parisienne is believed to be one of only 78 right-hand drive export models produced that year, which were primarily destined for Australia. Instead, this example found its way to British shores, and was registered in the UK on 12 May 1967.

As detailed in the car’s original build sheet, it was originally finished in Granada Gold Metallic with a Parchment vinyl interior and a black dashboard. It was then resprayed in black in 2005, and its interior was retrimmed with white vinyl and light herringbone fabric. It was acquired by the seller in May 2019.

Today, this Parisienne’s substantial body is in very good order, and there is no known prior damage to any of the panels. The black paintwork is smooth and glossy, and the brightwork also presents well. Furthermore, the light lenses are free of any chips or cracks, and the same is true of all the windows. This imposing American classic rides on a set of 14-inch Wolfrace Slot Mag alloy wheels, which are in great shape.

Moving inside, the spacious cabin has been retrimmed in contrasting white vinyl, while the seats’ centres are clad in cream herringbone fabric and are in excellent condition, with no noticeable blemishes or signs of wear to speak of. Ahead, the black dashboard and steering wheel have a charming patina; however, the latter’s black coating has split and the next owner may wish to have this repaired. The cavernous boot would also benefit from being retrimmed.

While the vendor states that the electric windows are slightly lazy in their operation, all of the other buttons, switches and electrical items work as they should, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Although much of the car’s service history is unknown, it is believed that its engine and gearbox have been replaced with period-correct units, which is as mentioned in a valuation letter from September 1991.

Exempt from mandatory annual testing due to its age, this Parisienne’s last MOT test was conducted on 18 April 2017 at 46,074 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. All four wheels are shod in Firestone Wide Oval tyres, which the vendor states are in good condition and have ample usable tread remaining.

The car will be accompanied by a substantial folder of documents, which includes its original handbooks, factory build sheets, brochures and other documentation.

While a 1966 Pontiac Parisienne is an uncommon sight in any configuration, this right-hand drive, export-market example represents what is likely an unrepeatable opportunity in the UK. Able to transport up to six people in comfort and style, it would make a great event hire car, but would serve its owner equally well as a rare-groove family car or weekend driver.
