1966 MG B ROADSTER

This 1966 MG B Roadster is a smart example of the beloved British convertible, which is believed to have genuine low mileage and remain largely original. Under the bonnet sits the 1.8-litre B-Series inline-four engine, coupled with a four-speed manual transmission. The history file suggests that the car has covered just 17,090 miles in total, though the original odometer was replaced at 11,583 miles, and the current reading is 5,507.

First registered in March 1966, this MG B Roadster has been with its current keeper for the last eight-and-a-half years. While the car is thought to have originally been blue, the HPI record shows a recorded change to red in 1986.

The bodywork is reported to be in very good condition, and the red paint finish also looks impressive thanks to a previous respray. It has minor imperfections, which are visible in the photo gallery, but generally presents well throughout. The front grille and other chrome trim pieces are all in good condition, and the car rides on a set of smart 14-inch wire wheels.

Inside, the black leather upholstery is believed to be entirely original and presents with just some age-related creasing. The red piping is all in good shape, though the vendor notes the webbing on the seatbelts is slightly frayed. The door cards and carpets present well, and though a couple of very faint marks can be seen on the dashboard, its MG emblem and surrounding trim is all in good order. The wood gear knob and steering wheel inlay present very well, and no electrical faults have been detected.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in March 2021, where technicians at MB Motors in Midhurst replaced the fuel pump and topped up the antifreeze. Prior to this, MB Motors changed engine oil in June 2020, and carried out similar routine servicing in June 2019, also replacing the oil filter, brake fluid, condenser and contact set.

The most recent MOT test was on 15 June 2020 at an indicated 5,433 miles, which resulted in a pass with six advisories to monitor damaged front seat belt webbing, a slight oil leak and slight play in the steering rack inner joints and offside front wheel bearing. The tyres were fitted in 2011, and all have a reported tread minimum of 7mm.

Accompanying the vehicle is a folder of maintenance documentation, along with a user handbook, spare wheel and wheel jack. The vendor states that there are a number of old MOT certificates dating back to 1988, when the recorded mileage was 10,375 miles, which provide good evidence of the low mileage covered every year.

This MG B Roadster is a cherished classic, which has been kept in good mechanical order, and has low indicated mileage supported by a strong history file. A charming weekend cruiser or a great foundation for further improvement, this MG B would make a great addition to any collection.
