1966 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT350

KEY FACTS

  • A race-prepared example of the rare classic muscle car, with a smart Wimbledon White finish and a few tasteful modifications.
  • It is powered by a 5.5-litre Ford V8 incorporating a Knight Racing competition block, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission.
  • An original Shelby GT350, it was originally kept as a company car by a member of staff at Shelby American, before moving on to Hayward Motors in California, where it was used as a demonstration vehicle.
  • It was imported into the UK by the vendor in 1998, where it was used sparingly as paddock transport at the Goodwood Revival for five years, before being restored and race-prepared at American V8 specialist Roxwell Racing in 2003, when the car had around 80,000 miles on the clock.
  • Subject to specification and securing an FIA HTP, the car would be eligible for tours and events such as the Goodwood Revival, Spa 6 Hours, Tour Auto, Modena Cento Ore, and the Peter Auto Sixties' Endurance series.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Its Wimbledon White paintwork is accented by blue racing stripes, while inside there are also blue-trimmed bucket seats to continue the theme, complete with Willans harnesses.
  • The cabin retains much of its original trim, though has been fitted with a roll cage, fire extinguisher, a central switchgear panel, and an aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel, while the rear seats have been removed.
  • There is an aluminium foam-filled fuel tank and a larger radiator installed.
  • An uprated clutch for fast road use has been fitted, along with racing dampers and anti-roll bars.
  • Its original owner’s manual will be included, along with a folder of maintenance invoices, Californian registration cards, a photographic record of the restoration and upgrade work, and magazine articles to document the car’s US-based history.
  • Also included are the original numbers-matching engine, rear seats, interior panels, steering wheel and a set of rare original road wheels.

CONDITION

  • No known prior bodywork damage.
  • Its resprayed Wimbledon White finish is in excellent overall condition, though the vendor has reported some minor bubbling on top of the rear wing.
  • Inside, the blue racing seats feature just some light creasing, and no significant wear.
  • No electrical faults have been detected.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 26 May 2017 at 334 miles since the restoration, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Its last service was in June 2020 at 460 miles, which included renewal of the engine oil, oil filter and coolant, before fitting new fuel pumps and adjusting and bleeding the brakes. Prior to this, the clutch was replaced in 2019.

SUMMARY
