1966 FORD F100 CUSTOM

This 1965 Ford F100 cruiser is a sensational custom truck – built by Mark Sullivan to be as enjoyable to drive and comfortable to be in as it is capable of turning heads at shows or on the road. Under the hood is a 350ci small-block Chevrolet motor running through a three-speed TH350 automatic transmission. The odometer reads approximately 29,000 miles.

The car began life as a 1965 Ford F100 pickup truck, and remained in its original specification for several decades, until it found itself in the workshop of prolific custom builder Mark Sullivan. Mark built the car up into a cruiser, swapping the original suspension for a Series 1 Jaguar XJ6 front end and steering rack, pulling the old Ford power plant out, and dropping a Chevrolet 350ci motor in, before getting to work on the body and wheels.

That Chevrolet motor is not exactly standard, either, running a Scat crank and rods, KT Tools pistons and a solid-roller cam, as well as ported heads, Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake, Holley 650 DP carburettor and Crane valve springs. A custom alloy radiator keeps things cool, while the whole thing breathes through a custom 2.5-inch exhaust and sounds incredible.

It has been in the care of its current owner for the last 18 months, during which time it’s only needed basic servicing work.

Now a few years on from the build, the body, panels and paint have been maintained to the same excellent standard as when they left Sullivan’s workshop. The arresting copper and pearl black two-tone paintwork exhibits a few minor scratches as you’d expect from use, but nothing particularly noteworthy, and the car presents extremely well.

The Peanut Brown leather interior is custom and was developed by Jeff’s Custom Interiors, featuring tweed highlights and a carpeted floor to replace the original mats. It maintains some of the minimalist aesthetic of the original car, while making for a much more comfortable and more stylish place to enjoy the ride.

Fit and finish inside is to a very high standard and has been very well-cared for. The electronics and controls are all reported to work as they should, though the owner notes that the air-conditioning will need re-gassing.

Simplified Auto Care carried out an engine oil and filter change in July 2020. Prior to that, servicing was looked after by the previous owner. The vendor notes that the power steering has a minor leak, but there are no other known minor issues.

The Ford passed its roadworthiness inspection in January, 2021, with no advisories or warnings recorded. Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres are fit to the American Racing Salt Flat 20x8.5 and 20x12-inch wheels and are described as being in good condition.

For the right person, this custom 1965 Ford F100 cruiser will be love at first sight. It is a relatively recent build in near-pristine condition and it ticks all the boxes for a ‘Cali’ style cruiser. It is an eye-catching and very well-built truck that will prove to be enjoyable from behind the wheel; and deeply impressive even just to look at.
