1966 FIAT 600 MULTIPLA

This Fiat 600D Multipla is a fully restored example of the classic MPV, finished in a period-perfect colour scheme. It is powered by a 767cc inline-four, which drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 12,235 km, though this is not warranted, and the correct figure may well be 112,235 km for example.

An original 1966 model which has always remained in Italy, this 600D features the six-seater layout, which comprises a fixed front bench plus four individual rear seats in two rows. All four rear seats can be folded down flat onto the floor, creating a large loading bay for bigger items to be carried. It has been with the current owner for the last four years.

The bodywork and paint are described as being in excellent condition, still fresh from the comprehensive restoration. The photo gallery includes an excellent record of the refurbishment, including images of the 600D Multipla prior to the cosmetic work, and lots of images that demonstrate its superb restored appearance - including the pristine underside as well as the refreshed body panels and paint finish.

The work included replacement of the floors, as well as the inner and outer sills. It was resprayed in Ivory for the top section and wheels, and light blue for the main body. The brightwork is in superb order, and it is also equipped with a roof rack and vintage cases for a smart period aesthetic. The vendor notes that the window glass is believed to be all-original, and there are some hairline scratches on the surface as a result.

Inside, the cabin has been re-trimmed in bright red vinyl, providing an eye-catching contrast to the exterior hues. The painted seat frames all present well, and the vinyl upholstery is in great shape. It is fitted with black rubber matting throughout the interior, as it would have been when delivered from the factory. The steering wheel and column assembly, and the switchgear and instrument gauge unit all appear to be original, and lend this restored car a touch of charming patina. There are no reported faults with any of the electrics or controls.

During the restoration, the 767cc engine was fully rebuilt, and again the mechanical work is well-documented in the selection of photos in the gallery. The vendor reports that it has a recent Italian ‘Revisione’ roadworthiness test, and that the tyres were renewed as part of the refurbishment. Accompanying the car is an original Fiat tool kit, as well as the Italian title document.

This Fiat 600D Multipla is a wonderful 1960s classic, which benefits from a comprehensive and well-documented cosmetic and mechanical restoration. It would make a charming car in which to go touring when permitted, and likewise would make a superb classic to take to and exhibit at a multitude of shows in the future.
