1965 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 1 4.2 FHC

This 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) is a well-maintained example of one of the most iconic British sports cars ever created, complete with a Jaguar Heritage certificate issued during 2014. Powered by a 4.2-litre inline-six engine coupled to a manual transmission, this example has covered 108,938 miles from new, and comes with a great history file.

Built on 11 November 1965 and first registered on 7 January 1966, this E-Type Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe was originally delivered in Carmen Red, before later being repainted in the timeless shade of British Racing Green. Its HPI check shows it was previously registered overseas, and is indicated to have been first registered in the UK in 1991 – though it is an original right-hand drive example. Having been in the care of the current owner for 10 years, the vehicle has benefitted from a recent no-expense-spared overhaul at the hands of Barkaways.

The British Racing Green bodywork is in great condition, and has recently had the front nose lip repainted. There are some minor age-related marks around the car which are commensurate with the vehicle’s age and mileage, along with a small patch of bubbling paint above the offside headlight. The chrome trim is all in excellent condition, while the panel lines appear even throughout.

During the vendor’s ownership, the car has had the original headlights upgraded to a HID system, while there are spotlights in the front grille area; however the original grille is included in the sale. The car also sits on a set of D-Type style alloy wheels; a smart modification that is popular with many E-Type owners.

The interior is in generally excellent condition, with some wear starting to show on the driver’s seat base. The leather is free from rips and tears, and the rest of the interior condition is fantastic considering the age and the mileage of the vehicle. Its seats have been upgraded to provide more comfort, and there are also two touring cases that fit on the rear luggage deck. The switchgear works as it should, with no known electrical faults.

It is clear that this E-Type has been thoroughly maintained during the vendor’s ownership. The most recent service was undertaken at 104,911 miles by Barkaways during July 2019. During this service the engine oil and filter were changed, the rear brakes were refurbished, and the carburettors were balanced. In addition to this, the vehicle received a new heater motor, new driveshaft upper joint and output seal, a new thermostat housing and thermostat, a new uprated aluminium radiator and cooling fan, a new alternator drive belt, a coolant flush and several new coolant hoses. In total, the bill for work carried out by Barkaways in 2019 came to £14,000. During 2020, the car received a new Burlen SU OEM fuel pump and hose, again fitted by Barkaways.

Prior to this, the vehicle was serviced in January 2016 by Jaguar specialist M. Waterman, which saw the vehicle receive a new electronic ignition module distributor, new spark plugs and HT leads, a new air filter and new Burlen SU OEM carburettors. While the car is mechanically highly original, a set of Sigma big valve gas-flowed heads have been fitted to the 4.2-litre engine.

The last MOT test for this E-Type took place on 14 May 2018, when the car passed with no advisories, though the vehicle is MOT exempt due to its age. All tyres have 5-6mm of tread and are in great condition. There are no reported faults with the vehicle, meaning this E-Type is ready for its next adventure.

Along with the large history folder, including the aforementioned Jaguar Heritage certificate which was issued in 2014, the car also comes with two sets of keys, and a number of spare parts including a wood steering wheel, headlamp seals, bumper rubbers, charging regulator, an original fuel filter housing, jack and a spare fan belt.

This E-Type Series 1 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe presents in absolutely fantastic condition for its age, and is a well-documented example. A wonderful opportunity for anyone looking for a ‘sorted’ Series 1 E-Type, it would make a great addition to any classic car collection.
