1964 ALVIS TE21 DROPHEAD COUPE

KEY FACTS

• An excellent example of the classic convertible tourer, produced by Alvis with Mulliner Park Ward coachwork.
• Under the bonnet is the 130bhp 3.0-litre Alvis straight-six, which has been converted to run on unleaded fuel, coupled to the five-speed ZF manual transmission. 
• Ordered directly at the 1964 Motor Show from Jack Barclay Ltd, where Prince Phillip is also thought to have ordered his own personal Alvis, and first registered on 12 November of the same year.
• It was kept within the family until 1975, when it was placed into dry storage, before being purchased by a second owner in 2008.
• It was then stripped to its bare metal and restored to a very high standard over several years at Aston Martin Works, Newport Pagnell, with the vendor noting that virtually all body panels, mechanical components and trim pieces have either been replaced or repaired.
• It is now in the private collection of its third owner, who acquired the vehicle in May 2017.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• This Alvis was refinished in its original colour combination of Beige Metallic paintwork, resprayed by Grimshaw and Wake Ltd in Hampton, and beige leather trim, renewed by Trimming Services of Cobham.
• The TE21 features independent coil spring suspension at the front with leaf springs at the rear, and is equipped with four disc brakes with new Dunlop callipers.
• This example was specified with power steering and chrome wire wheels.
• Its original logbook, sales invoice, factory warranty and Jack Barclay correspondence letters will be included, along with an Aston Martin Works parts catalogue
• There is an extensive detailed history file, including a photographic record of the restoration, various magazine articles and a raft of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates.

CONDITION

• No known bodywork damage, and the soft-top roof works as it should.
• Its Metallic Beige paintwork is in excellent condition, with no significant marks or blemishes.
• Inside, its beige leather upholstery has just a few very light creases, and the unrestored walnut dashboard is in very good shape.
• No electrical issues have been detected.
• The most recent MOT test was on 2 July 2021 at 41,001 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

• The battery was replaced in 2021 and has been connected to a conditioner.
• Its most recent service was in 2020, which comprised an annual engine oil and filter change.
• Routine services have been performed in 2018 and 2019, and the car has evidently been kept in superb order following its restoration.
