1963 MORRIS MINI 850

This beautifully restored and low-mileage Australian-delivered Morris Mini 850 is a lovely example of the early model, which would go on to become one of the world’s most iconic and enduring driver’s cars. Under the bonnet, an 848cc inline-four provides the power and is mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. The odometer indicates 2,100 miles, though this is not warranted.

First registered in January 1963, the car has been very well-cared for and maintained by marque specialists. The owner’s manual, service manuals and receipts documenting some of that specialist care will be included in the sale.

The Mini benefits from a previous bare-metal respray in a period-correct colour combination of Tartan Red over a red interior. Its panels and trim are all in excellent condition, with no known prior damage. The Tartan Red paintwork itself is also in great shape, having picked up just a few very minor stone chips since the refurbishment.

Inside, this Mini is now in wonderful condition, with its vibrant red upholstery showing only the slightest signs of use in a few places. Above the occupants, the headlining is also in excellent order, and the door panels and dashboard are also very smart. There are small blemishes on some of the original metal trim pieces, as well as the steering wheel and central speedometer, but these only serve to add a dash of patina to an otherwise fully restored cabin. The interior of the Mini is of course particularly basic, but there are no known faults with any of the controls or electrics.

An annual service was carried out on the car in December 2020 at 21,000 miles. Since the restoration, the car has required little more than routine service work to ensure that it is in fine running order. An invoice in the file shows that the exhaust system was renewed in March 2020, along with the ignition coil, points, as well as a clutch slave cylinder and clutch hose.

The Mini holds current registration on non-transferable club plates. It passed its most recent roadworthy check in December 2020. Kumho Power Star 758 tyres are fitted, which are in good condition and estimated at 60% tread remaining.

Having withstood the test of time with grace, this restored 1963 Morris Mini 850 presents beautifully. Its superb exterior condition is matched by a stunning interior, not to mention rebuilt and refurbished mechanicals. It would be a striking addition to any collection of classics, while the unique driving experience is sure to delight its next owner.
