1963 LANCIA FLAMINIA 3C 2.8L GTL

KEY FACTS

• An elegant classic 2+2 GT car, with Carrozzeria Touring-designed coachwork, which would benefit from some cosmetic refurbishment.

• It is powered by the 2.8-litre Lancia V6, fed by a triple-barrel carburettor and producing around 150bhp, coupled to the four-speed manual transmission.

• Thought to be one of only 300 GTLs, this example remains highly original and unrestored.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• The Flaminia featured an upgraded version of the Lancia Aurelia’s chassis, with double wishbones, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar at the front, alongside a ‘De Dion’ setup at the rear.

• The GTL model was introduced in 1962 with a 2+2 layout and a longer wheelbase than the standard car.

• It featured a Carrozzeria Touring-designed two-door aluminium body, and can be distinguished by its four round headlights, rather than the two-headlight setup on Pininfarina-designed Flaminias.

• Accompanying the vehicle is a raft of old MOT certificates.

CONDITION

• No known bodywork damage.

• Its silver paintwork is in fair condition, and has developed numerous bubbles around the wings and sills, which are clearly shown in the gallery. A notable scratch can be seen on the left front wing, along with some flaking to the right-side rear. The boot lid shows significant wear and discolouration.

• The chrome body trims, window surrounds and door handles feature some light scratching and spotting.

• Inside, its red leather upholstery appears to have faded under sunlight, and also has some modest creasing, but is believed to be original. A small tear can be seen on the outer edge of the driver’s seat base.

• The headlining is slightly discoloured, and the leather-clad door cards have a few bubbles.

• The switchgear controls and surrounding metal dashboard trim both present with some flaking and discolouration.

• The most recent MOT test was on 24 October 2017, which was a first-time pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

• Its most recent service was in May 2021, where technicians at Speedy Motors cleaned and set the carburettor, before also attending to the ignition.

SUMMARY

This Lancia Flaminia 3C 2.8-litre GTL is a rare 2+2 grand tourer, with Touring-designed bodywork and remaining very original. While it is reported to be in good mechanical order, it is in need of some cosmetic restoration, so could be the ideal improvement project for a dedicated enthusiast or specialist restorer.
