KEY FACTS
- A highly original example of the revolutionary design icon.
- First registered in April 1961, this ID19P spent more than 50 years in the care of just a single private owner near Bordeaux.
- It is powered by a 69bhp 1.9-litre inline-four, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission.
- Retains its factory colour scheme, with very well preserved bodywork and mechanicals.
EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS
- The ID19P retained the hydraulic self-levelling suspension system that the original DS had become so famous for, but had conventional brakes, steering, and clutch operation.
- It is finished in handsome Vert Melèze with fantastic green Helanca fabric upholstery.
- The only modification from the original specification is the conversion from the synthetic hydraulic fluid (LHS) to the mineral liquid (LHM) system.
- Accompanying the car is the original handbook, the ‘Attestation d’órigine Citroën’, and all tools.
CONDITION
- There is no body damage, and all of the panels are believed to be original.
- Around six years ago, it was acquired from the long-term first private owner by Citroen specialist ‘Garage Scholpp’. An extensive but sympathetic refurbishment, preserving originality wherever possible, was then carried out by Citroën specialist Mike Wettel in France.
- The chassis and the underbody was treated, and the top coat of the paintwork was renewed, with a glossy and slightly matt finish to preserve the character of a car from 1961. The Vert Melèze finish now presents superbly.
- Its interior is believed to be completely original, retaining the period-perfect Helanca fabric, as well as the correct fixtures and fittings. There is a smart patina on some of the cabin’s features, but overall is in great shape.
- There are no electrical faults, and all switches and controls work as they should.
- The vendor reports that the car starts, runs and drives very well, with no known mechanical issues.
SERVICE HISTORY
- A fresh service will be carried out ready for handover to the next owner, with an engine oil and filter change.
- Prior to this it also received an engine oil change in 2018, following on from refurbishment at Garage Scholpp.
- All four tyres have been recently renewed.
SUMMARY
This Citroen ID19P is a wonderful French classic, which has been remarkably well-preserved thanks to its previous single ownership of more than 50 years. It runs well and presents smartly, retaining its glorious original interior and benefiting from a fresh top coat respray. As a charming cruiser that turns heads wherever it goes, this would be a great addition to any collection.
