1961 ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA SPIDER

This 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider is a stunning example of the Series 2 ‘Tipo 101’ sports car, presented in wonderful condition following a restoration. Under the bonnet is the car’s original aluminium 1.3-litre twin cam engine, which is fed by a single Solex carburettor and drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 86,472 km from new.

First registered in 1961, this Giulietta has been sympathetically restored in recent years, and was described by Historic Cars CTU Court of Milano as “one of the best conserved cars of this model in Italy” following their inspection in 2017. The seller acquired the car earlier this year.

Having been restored and resprayed to a high standard, the Pininfarina-penned bodywork and Rosso Alfa finish are in exceptional condition, with no evidence of any prior damage and with even panel gaps. The paintwork has a bright and glossy appearance, with only a couple of very small blemishes on the driver’s-side of the nose and a handful of minor stone chips behind the rear driver’s-side wheel. The brightwork, including the iconic ‘scudetto’ front grille, the bumpers and the headlamp bezels, is in great shape, and the light lenses and glass are free of any chips or cracks. This Giulietta Spider rides on the correct set of 15-inch wheels, which are finished in silver with highly polished centre caps, and are in very good condition overall.

Stepping inside, the cabin has also been extensively retrimmed, and is in great shape. The seats are clad in black leather with red piping, which provides an attractive contrast while matching the body colour. Both are free of any noticeable wear, and there is no damage to their surfaces. Ahead, the upper section of the red dashboard is also wrapped in black leather and presents very well, and the two-tone steering wheel is similarly smart. While the majority of the interior has been tended to, the car retains its original set of instrument gauges, which have a charming light patina, adding to this Alfa Romeo’s classic charm. The vendor reports that all of the interior switches and electrical items work without fault, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

As a result of its previous owners’ annual inspections and routine maintenance, this characterful convertible is in fine mechanical fettle. Most recently, it was treated to a full service at 83,919 km, which included an oil and filter change, among other items.

Furthermore, its last Revisione roadworthiness inspection was conducted in 2020, which it passed without any warnings or advisories, and all four wheels are fitted with brand-new Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres.

The car will be accompanied by its valuation reports from the Automotoclub Strocio Italiano (ASI) and Historic Cars CTU Court of Milano, which detail its specification and its overall condition at the time of inspection.
