1959 RENAULT 4CV

KEY FACTS

• A wonderful example of the charming Gallic classic, presented in very smart condition following a light cosmetic restoration.
• Under the rear engine lid is the 747cc ‘Billancourt’ inline-four, which drives the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission.
• The odometer currently displays 68,721km from new; however this is not warranted.
• First registered in what was Czechoslovakia in September 1959, this 4CV was imported into the UK and registered with the DVLA in August 2015.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• This 4CV has been fully resprayed in a charming blue and light grey colour scheme, accented by re-chromed bumpers and the model’s signature art deco body trims.
• It rides on a set of colour-matched blue and grey steel wheels, which are fitted with chromed hubcaps and are in great shape.
• The car will be accompanied by copies of the correct owner’s handbook and sales brochures, as well as a copy of its original Czech registration certificate and a letter from the Renault Classic Car Club, confirming its identity.

CONDITION

• No known bodywork damage.
• Having been recently resprayed, the two-tone blue and light grey paintwork is in very good overall condition, with a few minor marks and blemishes around the car, including chips and very small blisters on the bottom edge of the driver’s side rear door, and small chips on the rear engine lid.
• It is not known whether the seats have been re-trimmed in the past, but their black vinyl upholstery presents very well, and the light blue replacement carpet is similarly smart.
• The interior trim is also in great shape, and while there are a few small marks on the dashboard and minor cracks and blemishes on the steering wheel, this is in line with the car’s age and mileage.
• There are no known electrical or mechanical faults with the vehicle.
• The car is exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age.

SUMMARY

This 1959 Renault 4CV is a stylish and characterful French classic, which has recently been refinished in an appealing two-tone colour scheme, while retaining much of its inimitable retro charm. Though it may benefit from a general service and mechanical inspection, this charming 4CV should prove to be a fun and memorable companion to its next owner, and would make a fine addition to any collection of post-war classics.
