RESERVE LOWERED: 1957 BMW ISETTA 300

This BMW Isetta 300 is a wonderful example of an iconic microcar, presented in superb restored condition with a timeless colour scheme. It is powered by a four-stroke 297cc BMW motorcycle engine, producing around 13hp, driven through the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 53,418 km (33,192 miles).

An original left-hand-drive example believed to have been delivered new within continental Europe, this particular car benefits from the slightly more powerful and torquier 300cc engine, while retaining the more attractive ‘bubble’ windows of the early Isetta design. It has been owned by the seller for the last two years, who now wants to make space for other vehicles within his collection of small cars.

This Isetta’s bodywork is in great condition, with no dents or corrosion in the body panels, and has been fully repainted in a gleaming combination of red and white. The finish is smooth and glossy all around the car, and folds in the metal panels are still visible, which is always a good sign that a restoration has been undertaken with care. The metal bumpers and light cowlings are in great shape, with a highly polished appearance.

All of the glass windows are in very good order, and the rubber seals are sound. The black fabric roof folds back and forth perfectly, and there is also an original Cornett fold-down visor over the windscreen. At the back of the car is an elegant metal luggage rack, which can accommodate a suitcase, so the Isetta can even be used for a short weekend away.

Like the exterior, the cabin has been fully restored, finished with new white upholstery that features red and black chequered panels. Ahead of the driver is an original three-spoke steering wheel, as well as the small VDO speedometer. The steering linkage and pedal box are in very good order, and there is charcoal carpet lining the floor and the parcel shelf area.

The 300cc engine was totally rebuilt during the refurbishment, and presents in superb mechanical and cosmetic condition. The seller reports that the car starts, runs, and drives extremely well, with no faults whatsoever. Its wheels are finished with bright metal hubcaps, and are fitted with a set of Falken Sincera SN-807 tyres in size 145/80 R10, which are as-new.

This BMW Isetta 300 is an eye-catching microcar, which benefits from a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration. It is a charming classic that would be ideal for weekend touring or for showing at any number of events during the summer season. The Isetta is undoubtedly the most iconic ‘bubble car’, and this example wants for nothing.
