1957 AUSTIN HEALEY 100/6

This 1957 Austin Healey marks a unique opportunity to own one of 14 original right hand drive 100/6s produced in 1957, assembled at the famous Longbridge plant and presented with a sought-after hardtop roof, a rare fitment disk brake conversion and heritage certificate complete with matching numbers, though the vendor notes this shows steel wheels rather than the wire competition alternatives fitted.

Produced as a replacement for the Austin Healey 100, before being followed by the Austin Healey 3000, the 100/6 marks the middle in the series of vehicles known as the Big Healeys. The 100/6 features a wheelbase two inches longer than the 100, a more powerful engine and two added rear seats. The body lines were slightly more streamlined, while a smaller, wider radiator grill was positioned lower and an air scoop was added to the bonnet. Its 2.6-litre straight-six engine produces 117bhp, twinned with a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates just 56,000 miles from new.

First registered in July 1957, the vehicle has had 3+ owners including racing driver Roy Spiers, and was purchased by the vendor ten years ago to join a small collection, specially chosen due to its originality. The vendor notes it has covered no long journeys since their ownership began, and that the vehicle is currently SORNed.

The car features Florida Green paintwork with cream side panels. There is some age-related oxidation to some of the metal trim and a significant chip is visible in the paintwork on the boot lid. Other minor chips are present on both rear corners, though the vehicle has been well-preserved overall. The vendor notes the rare hardtop roof is a real eye-catcher, while the vehicle comes fitted with Austin’s desirable central-fluted bonnet and 15-inch Healey competition 72-spoke wire wheels.

The interior condition is also described as good, though some signs of age-related discolouration present themselves on the black leather seats. However, all upholstery is believed to be original and none of the leather is torn or damaged, as reported by the owner. The interior features a sense of classic British charm, complete with the Union Jack on the dashboard and quintessentially Austin wooden steering wheel.

The vehicle was last serviced in 2019 by New Elms classic car workshop, where the technicians fitted a new starter motor and brake cylinders, before refurbishing the brake calipers and replacing the engine oil and filters. Prior to this, the vendor notes the Healey underwent a full refurbishment of the suspension, running gear and carburettors at Healey specialist Pete Farmer Racing.

The vehicle is exempt from an annual MOT test under classic car status, with the last test taking place on 23 July 2012, which resulted in a clean pass. The vendor notes the vehicle has since been maintained in running order but has been barely used. The seller was unable to confirm the exact age of the Michelin X-Radial tyres, though notes there’s plenty of tread left on them, and they appear in good condition all round.

Accompanying the vehicle is a file detailing the car’s MOT and service history, as well as the Austin heritage certificate with matching numbers, minus the competition wire wheels.

This Austin Healey 100/6, previously owned by racing driver Roy Spiers, represents an opportunity to own one of the 14 original right hand drive models assembled in 1957. Fitted with a rare fitment disc brake conversion, 15-inch Healey competition 72-spoke wire wheels and a sought-after hardtop roof, this Healey 100/6 has been well-preserved as part of a small collection and has covered very few miles, despite being maintained in running order.

All UK-registered cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. This vehicle shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.
