1952 MORRIS OXFORD

KEY FACTS

  • A good example of the early post-war ‘Series MO’ saloon, with low mileage and a handsome colour scheme.
  • It is powered by a rebuilt 40bhp 1.5-litre side-valve inline-four, coupled to a four-speed column-shift manual gearbox.
  • A two-owner car, it was acquired by the vendor 37 years ago.
  • It was restored in 2002 by Classic Restorations in Alyth, Scotland and has been serviced on an ad-hoc basis ever since, having been driven sparingly.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Thought to have originally left the factory finished in light blue, it was repainted in the current green hue in 2002, and this is complemented by original green leather upholstery.
  • The car is equipped with manual winding windows, sun visors, and green carpets throughout.
  • Various pieces of original literature will be included, along with the toolkit, a selection of spare parts and a raft of maintenance invoices.

CONDITION

  • No bodywork damage, having been restored and undersealed in 2002.
  • Its green paintwork is in generally excellent condition, with just a few minor blemishes on the front end, and light swirl marks in places.
  • While the exterior still looks very smart after its restoration, the interior was left original apart from new carpets. There is a significant tear in the stitching of the front bench upholstery, along with some general creasing and surface cracking.
  • Some wear can be seen on the dashboard and the Smiths dials are slightly cloudy.
  • The analogue clock is currently inoperative.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 5 June 2019 at 43,591 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects. It is exempt from mandatory testing on the basis of age.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Its most recent service was performed in June 2019 at 43,591 miles, at Hamish A. Mackay MOT Centre in Angus.
  • Prior to this, the car was serviced in September 2013 and in November 2011 at Classic Restorations in Alyth.
  • The car was restored at Classic Restorations in 2002, which comprised new body panels and fresh paintwork, new carpets and an engine rebuild.

SUMMARY

  • This Morris Oxford is a two-owner example of the ‘Series MO’ saloon, which was partially restored in 2002. The next owner may wish to commission an interior refurbishment to match the quality of the exterior work, but ultimately the car is ready to use as-is, and would make a charming addition to any assembly of British classics.
