1946 MG TC 'Q-TYPE' SPECIAL

KEY FACTS

• A charming custom classic road and race car with ‘Q-Type’ styling, which has covered just 150 miles since its re-build.
• It is powered by a 1250cc reconditioned XPAG engine with an uprated cam, coupled to a four-speed sychromesh manual gearbox, both supplied by MG specialist Peter Edney.
• Based on an MG TC, it is originally thought to have been supplied to Lancashire Constabulary and used as a patrol car.
• The vehicle was purchased as a rolling chassis and comprehensively restored and upgraded by the vendor as a unique Special.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Inspired by the original and exceptionally rare Q-Type MG; these original racers were capable of around 120mph from a supercharged 750cc engine.
• This special has been fitted with a ‘Q-Type’ body, featuring streamlined fairings and lightweight mud guards.
• There are simple aero screens for both driver and passenger.
• It is equipped with a live front axle, Alfin drums and hydraulic brakes, and a removable steering wheel.
• The vendor opted to install an aftermarket indicator ‘beeper’ to make the car more usable on the road.

CONDITION

• There is no damage to the new custom bodywork, and no known prior damage.
• Its red paintwork is in excellent condition, with no scuffs or scratches.
• Similarly, its tan leather upholstery is in great shape, free of any noticeable wear.
• No mechanical or electrical faults have been detected.

SERVICE HISTORY

• During the build process, the correct XPAG inline-four was reconditioned by respected specialist Peter Edney, with a bill for several thousand pounds on file to support this.
• The gearbox, transmission, axles, suspension, steering and brakes have been comprehensively refurbished.

SUMMARY

This MG TC Special is a fantastic customised classic sports car, with Q-Type styling and a reconditioned 1250cc XPAG engine. In the vendor’s own words, it now “goes extremely well for a pre-war car, and easily keeps up with modern traffic”. Offered in superb condition, it would make an exciting classic track day entrant, or with some further modifications – perhaps even a supercharger as per the genuine Q-Types – it could be a competitive Vintage Sports Car Club racer.
