1901 LOCOMOBILE LOCOSURREY STEAM CAR

KEY FACTS

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Produced in September 1901 by the Locomobile Company of America, this Style 5 ‘Locosurrey’ is the rarer four-seat model, with the more robust carriage to handle the extra mass.
• The vehicle benefits from a full restoration carried out over a 12-year period, with the chassis blasted and repainted, a new body built to original specifications and all new upholstery.
• A new boiler by Don Bourdon has been fitted along with a new burner, constructed by the owner. The water tank is copper; and all steam, water and fuel plumbing is new.
• Period-correct modifications include a superheater and positive displacement oiler.
• The automatic steam shutoff and throttle are from Stanley Steam Supplies, and a small camera (that is easily removed) is used to monitor the water level.
• The wheels have been replaced with slightly wider, wire-spoke rims as the original tyre size is no longer available.
• The vehicle is supplied with a large amount of literature collected by the vendor during the restoration.

CONDITION

• There is no known body damage.
• The Red and Black finish is in excellent condition following a very recent repaint of the new body. The freshly painted Red chassis is in equally good condition, with the Lucas King’s Own side lights showing a lovely patina.
• This four-seat example has all new red leather upholstery which presents in superb condition.
• The controls and gauges are all in very good working condition and a fire extinguisher has been fitted.
• There are no known mechanical faults.
