The Lunar New Year Collection

The Lunar New Year Collection

Following on from our recent market launch in Hong Kong, and reflecting the importance of our global community with 100+ countries and cultures represented; Collecting Cars introduces ‘The Lunar New Year Collection’.

On 10 February 2024, the new Year of the Dragon will commence. With that in mind, our team has assembled an array of cars reflecting the tradition and colours most associated with Lunar New Year – in particular red, symbolising good fortune and prosperity.

Spearheading the consignments is the sensational and unique 2012 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport ‘Wei Long’, which was created in celebration of the previous Year of the Dragon in 2012. For this bespoke car, Bugatti teamed up with Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur of Berlin, commissioning the ceramics specialist to produce finely crafted porcelain details around the exterior and interior of the vehicle – including an incredible dragon relief sculpture on the panel between the seats.

Other star consignments include the striking 2019 Ferrari 488 Pista in Rosso Scuderia and with just over 3,000 km from new; an exceptionally rare 1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GT in Guards Red; a one-owner 2009 8C Competizione in Rosso Alfa; and a very low-mileage 2003 Ferrari 575M Maranello in Rosso Corsa, featuring the highly sought-after manual gearbox and carbon racing seats.

Lunar New Year celebrations in 2024 will be marked by many countries on Saturday 10 February, on the night of the second new moon following the winter solstice. Tying in with these festivities, The Lunar New Year Collection auctions will commence on Wednesday 7 February, and will close for bids across Sunday 18 and Monday 19 February.
