A ‘time-warp’ Fast Ford was the 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth that sold in April 2022 for €90,000. This Spanish-delivered Sierra was in highly original and unrestored condition, boasting just 6,247 km from new. Launched as a homologation special for motor racing, it was the first Ford to wear the ‘Cosworth’ badging, with a striking Diamond White finish and a grey cloth-trimmed cabin in impressive condition, it was an exciting find for any marque collector.
Ford has a rich rallying pedigree that fortunate individuals have experienced on the road, courtesy of their exhilarating homologation specials. This 1988 Ford RS200 was just that: a road-going version of an iconic Group B rally machine. Its Cosworth-developed turbocharged inline-four had been bored-out to 1950cc, and upgraded to 350bhp specification by Tickford in 1989. With rally-inspired decals over its white gel coat, quad front spotlights, and just 5,510 miles from new, this fantastic example sold for £233,500.
The Ford Mustang was first revealed to the American public in April 1964 and was an instant success, spawning a whole new breed of vehicle: the ‘pony car’. Nearly six decades later and with the nameplate still in production, it remains one of the most iconic and popular performance cars around the world. When it comes to iconic Mustangs, this 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was always going to be somewhere on the list. This fully restored car was one of just 2,048 examples built in 1967, and featured the correct weight-saving Shelby body panels, as well as its original engine. Delivered new to Canada, this GT500 boasted intriguing provenance, before undergoing a two-year award-winning restoration in 2015 to concours standards. The result was an exceptional 7.0-litre V8-powered muscle car icon, and it sold on Collecting Cars for £182,000.
And finally, the Collecting Cars team in Australia presented a significant Ford Falcon for sale via online auction in 2024, showcasing the iconic model at its zenith. The 1971 Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase III was produced as a homologation special in limited numbers. It was the fastest four-door sedan in the world in its time, and has gone on to become one of Australia’s most desirable classic vehicles – considered by some to be the best car ever built in the country.
