2006 DUCATI 999

This Ducati 999 Monoposto is a striking post-millennium superbike, presented in collector-quality condition with very low mileage. It is powered by the 998cc L-twin engine, producing around 140bhp, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 2,945 miles from new.

A very late example of the 999, this bike is a ‘facelift’ example with the cleaner front fairing that has a slightly sharper angle and a taller screen. The red frame, black rear sub-frame and World Superbike specification swingarm also show that this is one of the later examples, which are also known to have improved build quality and more reliable mechanicals - not to mention more power.

First registered in July 2006, this original UK-market bike has just two previous registered keepers on the log book. The current owner acquired the 999 in October 2018, after it had been off the road for around six years, and subsequently put it through a recommissioning service.

Its frame and body panels present in outstanding condition, evidently benefiting from careful storage, with no evidence of any structural damage. The only imperfection noted by the vendor is a small soft ding on top of the tank - which has not damaged the paint - that he believes could be easily fixed via a paintless dent removal process. The bright red paintwork is in superb order, as are all of the body trims - including the gloss carbon-fibre elements.

Ahead of the rider is a central Magneti Marelli analogue rev counter, complemented by a digital display screen. All of the instrumentation and readouts work as they should, and the vendor reports no faults or warning lights.

Having spent a lengthy period of time off the road in a private collection, this bike was recommissioned in November 2018 at 2,706 miles by Ducati specialist Luigi Moto in Bristol. The engine oil, oil filter, and spark plugs were renewed, along with the timing belts, belt tensioners, and the brake fluid. Luigi Moto has also adjusted the fueling to smooth out the power delivery and improve the ride characteristics. Two new Avon 3D Ultra Sport tyres were fitted during the same service.

The most recent MOT test was on 26 June 2020 at 2,847 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. Both tyres were renewed just under two years ago as stated above, and remain in excellent condition, having covered only 240 miles since then.

Accompanying the bike are all of the original books, including the owner’s manual, dealer guide, and the warranty and service book. An owner’s club booklet is also present, along with the original keys, including the important red key that is required for coding any new keys – and the owner has had a third spare cut for the bike.

This Ducati 999 Monoposto is an original and unmolested example of a characterful L-twin superbike, which boasts race-bred features as well as all of the improvements of the later built ‘facelift’ model. For anyone seeking a 999 to add to their collection, this is an opportunity not to be missed given its superb condition. It is also an exciting bike to ride on the road, and can be fully unleashed on the track, so should prove to be a thrilling machine for another enthusiast owner as well.

All UK-registered cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. This vehicle shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.
