2004 BMW R1100 S BOXERCUP REPLICA (BCR)

This BMW R1100 S BoxerCup Replica (BCR) is a rare and exciting sports bike, inspired by the racing models that competed in the marque’s International BoxerCup series. It is powered by a 1085cc flat-twin ‘boxer’ engine, producing 98hp, coupled to a six-speed shaft drive manual transmission. The odometer shows 27,150 miles from new.

Featuring a composite aluminium frame, the R1100 S also uses the engine as a stressed member. This later version of the BCR includes higher-riding Showa suspension and employs carbon-fibre for the belly pan, front mudguard, and the valve covers. A Laser exhaust system is also fitted, along with heated grips.

First registered in April 2004, this is an original UK market bike, and has just three previous registered keepers. The current owner acquired the bike around four years ago, and has covered some 500 miles since then.

The bike’s bodywork is in great condition for the age and mileage, with just the odd minor mark from general use. The carbon-fibre front mudguard has one stone chip, while there is also a stone chip and some light surface corrosion on the front engine cover. The cylinder cooling fins also have some surface corrosion, which is common with this era of air-cooled BMWs, and there is some paint flaking on the lower fork yoke. There are smaller marks, and some minor blemishes in the lacquer elsewhere, but overall this R1100 S presents superbly.

Its seat is in good condition, with no damage or noticeable wear, and the bike is currently fitted with the larger touring windscreen. An aftermarket tinted screen is also included. The indicator pods and the pannier rails were originally left in bare black plastic from the factory, but these have been professionally painted in red, commissioned by the previous owner. The bike comes with BMW pannier boxes, with both Touring specification and narrower City style lids. The dials read clearly, and there are no faults with any of the switchgear or electrics.

Mechanically, this R1100 S is in great shape, and still fresh from a scheduled maintenance visit to independent specialist Rainbow Workshop in February 2020 at 27,150 miles. This consisted of an engine oil and filter change, new brake fluid and clutch fluid, and replacement of the rear axle oil. A new battery was also fitted.

Prior to this, it was self-serviced by the previous owner in 2016 with another oil and filter change, and was seen by Rainbow BMW - which is now Motorrad dealer Allan Jefferies - in June 2014 at 19,259 miles and in July 2012 at 17,729 miles. On both occasions, the gearbox oil and brake fluid were also renewed, while the valve clearances were also reset during the latter.

The most recent MOT test was on 8 February 2020 at 27,145 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. In fact, its entire MOT history is exemplary, and the bike has never failed a test. It is equipped with a pair of Michelin Pilot Road 3 tyres, which were fitted in May 2017, but which have covered less than 100 miles since then, so remain in as-new condition.

Accompanying the bike is the original rider’s manual and service book, as well as a workshop repair CD. There is lots of paperwork documenting the service history, with a number of old invoices and receipts. Two original keys are also present, as well as a genuine BMW Motorrad battery charger, and the aforementioned panniers and screen.

This BMW R1100 S BoxerCup Replica is a very smart example of a rare modern classic. It has been well maintained throughout its life, and while there are a few cosmetic imperfections, this machine wants for nothing before being taken to the open road. It is a great dual-purpose sports bike, and would make a fine companion for weekend blasts or longer road trips alike.
