TCG August 2024 WC roundup (2)

Last month, the Collecting Cars and Watch Collecting platforms achieved record numbers in successful online auctions hosted for sellers worldwide. During August, sold prices totalled in excess of £25 million across more than 500 consignments, leading to a record revenue for The Collecting Group.

The amount generated for sellers in August represented an increase of over 40% on the same month last year; helped by some great sales of cars, watches, bikes, number plates and automobilia, in more than 25 countries across three continents.

On Collecting Cars, more than 380 consignments found new homes, including numerous sought-after supercars; with some of the highlights being an exceptionally rare manual-gearbox Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster (€470,000), a ‘Tailor Made’ Ferrari 488 Pista with just 826 miles from new (£292,500), and the very first Porsche 992 GT3 RS sold at auction outside North America (£264,000). The most popular sale was the attention-grabbing custom Porsche 993 Carrera ‘RWB’ in Rubystone Red sold in Norway, which attracted more than 130,000 views, and sold for €101,000.

Among other stand-out auctions from August were a Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth in Australia (A$220,500), a restored Ferrari Dino 246 GT (€320,000), and a manual Honda NSX that was among the ‘final 12’ delivered to the UK (£103,000).

It wasn’t just road cars finding strong bids, either. The ex-Jacques Villeneuve BAR Honda 002 Formula 1 race car sold for £85,500, while an official Red Bull Racing F1 simulator found a winning bid of £31,000. Covered private registrations also achieved very strong prices, including NSW Heritage plate ‘55’ in Australia (A$1,625,000), and UK registration ‘V 42’ (£40,500).

The Watch Collecting platform also continued to deliver great results for sellers last month, finding new homes for more than 120 collectible timepieces for clients across the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UAE, Austria, France, and Greece. Highlights included a 2024 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph '1017 ALYX 9SM', one of just 202 examples launched in 2023 in collaboration with fashion designer Matthew Williams (€125,000); a 2024 F.P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain Havana in elegant rose gold with intricate guilloche centre dial (£50,000); and a now-discontinued Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1R with brown baton dial (£99,000). The highest sale result on the platform was a pre-auction deal for a highly sought-after Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ‘Limited Edition Sanskrit Dial’ (£110,000).

Of particular note is the growing interest in the Collecting Cars Off-Market Sales service. These are vehicles that are not featured on the website, but where sellers engage with us to quickly identify the best prospects from our global network, and let us handle the negotiation on their behalf. In August, our team concluded off-market deals for a Porsche Carrera GT and a Ferrari 599 GTO, and we welcome enquiries from sellers with similar cars.

As always, our expert Collecting Cars and Watch Collecting Consignment Teams around the world are ready and waiting to help motivated sellers to get a great price at auction – so if you have a special car, watch, bike, or number plate to sell, then contact us to take the first step.
