Collecting Cars x Tamiya model launch Sep 2024 (2)

Following the reveal of the special Toyota GR Yaris collaboration with Tamiya, Collecting Cars is launching a limited-edition R/C model at this weekend’s Coffee Run at Bicester Heritage on 14 September. Just 25 model packs have been produced, for sale initially during the Coffee Run event with an exclusive discount, with any remaining being offered via our online store - Shop here.

The full-size GR Yaris homage to the Tamiya R/C Sand Scorcher was previously revealed at the Worldwide Coffee Run in May 2024, featuring the iconic blue and white livery of the beloved automotive toy, and even the faithful ‘506’ racing number and Pennzoil sponsor detail.

First produced by Tamiya just in time for Christmas 1979, the R/C Sand Scorcher was itself a tribute to the ‘Baja Bug’ modified VW Beetles. Its characterful and waterproof design, combined with robust metal components and running gear, meant it became an instant classic. In 2010, Tamiya launched a 30th anniversary model, introducing this icon to a new generation of enthusiasts.

In collaboration with Tamiya, Collecting Cars revealed the new full-size GR Yaris ‘Sand Scorcher’ livery back in May, and it is now launching the limited-edition run of matching R/C models that will be available to purchase. These 25 exclusive Tamiya cars will be available to buy - on a first come, first served basis - making them an instant collectible, accompanied by the Collecting Cars ‘Sand Scorcher’ sticker pack.

Based on Tamiya’s M-05 chassis, the GR Yaris model has a lightweight and easy-to-assemble semi-monocoque resin frame, while the gearbox, motor, battery pack, receiver, servo and ESC are positioned to give the car a low centre of gravity and optimum weight distribution. The Tamiya GR Yaris also features double wishbone suspension on all four corners, plus front and rear friction dampers. Check out our new video where BTCC Driver Jake Hill drives both the Tamiya model and the real car on track!
