Auction Highlight: 1995 Lamborghini Diablo VT
by Collecting Cars
Every generation has its own breed of ‘poster car’, though that description should probably be updated to ‘phone screen or desktop background car’ now. Whatever the technology, these are the cars that set the hearts of a particular generation racing with their stunning looks and, more often than not, their sensational performance.
However, some cars are so evocative that they manage to transcend one generation and become icons across the ages. One such car is the Lamborghini Diablo VT.

The Diablo was the marque’s first production car capable of over 200mph, courtesy of its 485bhp naturally aspirated 5.7-litre V12, which was mid-mounted for better weight balance. More refined and sophisticated than the Countach that preceded it, the Diablo offered improved usability and comfort, while still offering the exotic styling that had become synonymous with the brand.
In 1993 Lamborghini introduced the Diablo VT, which was marketed as an even more user-friendly version of the flagship supercar, given the still ferocious nature of the original car. Most notably the VT featured a four-wheel-drive system that could direct up to 25% of the torque to the front wheels to aid traction when the rear tyres began to slide. However, the VT also brought in a lighter clutch, power steering, and more comfortable seats.

In May 2020, Collecting Cars sold this impressive Diablo VT; an original UK-market example, which was one of just 400 produced. Showing just 24,183 Km (15,026 Miles) from new, and cherished by previous owners, this crowd-pleasing supercar represented a remarkably rare opportunity to acquire a stunning Italian icon.
This tastefully specified example was finished in the rare hue of Midnight Blue, over a grey leather-trimmed interior that featured dark blue carpets, and a black upper dashboard. It rode on a correct set of 17-inch three-piece polished OZ Racing alloy wheels, and even featured the original Alpine stereo head unit and amplifier.

To top it off, this Diablo VT was accompanied by the owner’s manuals with their original tan leather wallet, as well as a stamped service booklet, a set of tools, and a history file containing records of 15 services from new.
This example attracted strong bidding courtesy of its low mileage, stylish colour scheme, and significant rarity. It was secured by its new keeper with a winning bid of £132,000.
