1967 JAGUAR 420

KEY FACTS

  • Presenting smartly in a wonderful period colour scheme, this now rare Jaguar is in very good order.
  • Under the bonnet is the 4.2-litre straight-six XK engine, producing up to 245bhp, coupled to a three-speed BorgWarner automatic transmission.
  • The cherished vehicle registration JAG 20F is included in the sale.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The gold paint and Oxblood red interior is a fantastic combination, complemented by the veneered wood of the dashboard and interior embellishments.
  • Notable improvements over the S-Type that the 420 replaced are the upgrade to the stronger automatic transmission, plus the optional Variomatic power steering system – as fitted to this car, shown by the ‘P’ chassis number prefix – and safety focused changes to the interior.
  • It is believed to retain its original specification with no modifications.
  • What appears to be an original toolkit is present in the rear luggage compartment.

CONDITION

  • The vendor reports no knowledge of any damage to the bodywork.
  • Evidently resprayed in the past, the paintwork is in very good condition, as shown in the photo gallery.
  • The interior is believed to have been retrimmed and is in excellent condition with few signs of age.
  • The fuel gauge is intermittently inaccurate, and that the tachometer requires recalibration, but there are no other known faults or foibles.
  • The most recent MOT test was passed on 3 July 2021 at 77,689 miles, after some corrosion on the nearside front suspension area was rectified, and leaks from the rear exhaust and power steering pump were attended to – as described below.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Prior to gaining its most recent MOT pass certificate the car was subject to a new full stainless-steel exhaust system to address escaping gasses, the power steering pump was overhauled to address a fluid leak, and one of the jacking points was replaced.
  • The car also benefitted from a service, including an oil change and new oil filter, while these works were completed.
  • The vendor reports detailed service records accompany a large folder of invoices for routine and remedial maintenance carried out during the vehicle’s lifetime.

SUMMARY

Presented in a handsome and period-perfect colour scheme, this Jaguar 420 is offered in very good mechanical and cosmetic order. Enthusiast owned for 13 years prior to its recent acquisition, this elegant sports saloon would make a great choice for entry into the world of classic Jaguar ownership.
